The only place I'm not an expat is in Portugal, but I know just how it feels like
That’s because Portugal was where I was born and raised, and where I return as often as possible. I left decades ago, and since then I have lived the expat adventure in 5 different countries and 3 continents.
I got married in Sydney, was a newly wed in Venezuela, gave birth to my first daughter in New York City, and to my second daughter in Germany. We now live most of the time in Brisbane, Australia.
Whenever we visit Portugal with my husband and daughters, I see it again through my family’s eyes: the picturesque streets of Lisbon, the intriguing language and customs.
I know well what it feels like to be a new arrival in a country, where everything is fascinating and enthralling.
But the unfamiliar can loose its allure. The most basic daily tasks can seem like dreaded challenges until you learn the ropes.
This blog will show you those ropes. It shares my insider – and outsider – knowledge of the Portuguese lifestyle and customs to make your life easier.
I hope you enjoy Your Lisbon Life!
